Resumen
This work is dedicated to study the book covers of editions of the 7 books of Harry Potter series in different countries – being: USA/ Brazil, United Kingdom, France and Japan – intending to identify cultural traces in the representative illustrations that belong to those book covers. The methodology chosen is the Semiotics Analysis based on the Semiotics of Culture, through the work of Yuri Lotman, from the School of Tartu-Moscow. As criteria for the analysis, to observe the semiotics of image as a key to understanding the process of knowledgement and meaning of elements, was enlisted: a) Color: definition of color palette used on the book cover and its meanings, connections and its uses (where it was placed); b) Composition: definition of elements that integrates the illustrations of the book cover and its group; c) Narrative intersections: elements/ situations illustrated in the book covers that represent excerpts from narrative of the book itself. After the analysis of the book covers with these criteria, there will be observed differences and resemblances between all the book covers. We can conclude that the hypothesis of this work proves itself true, since we were able to identify resemblance in production of the cover’s elements, as well as diverse differences that make this covers unique
