Resumen
Heritage Education in the educational process of the Lower Elementary School is a driving
tool for preservationist practices of the Cultural Heritage, being contemplated in the
Documento Orientador do Território de Restinga Sêca/RS (DOTRS/2019), as a
Contemporary Theme. Based on the analysis of this document, our research proposes that this
theme should be included as a Curricular Component of the Knowledge Area of Human
Sciences, in the stage of Elementary School in the Early Years. Offering Heritage Education
as a curricular component in the early years in the schools of the municipality of Restinga
Sêca aims to promote visibility, recognition and appreciation of cultural assets since early
childhood, as well as to provide different ways for the student to relate to the cultural world at
a local and regional level. Restinga Sêca is located in the center of the state of Rio Grande do
Sul, and it is part of the Fourth Colony of Italian Immigration, which is formed by nine
municipalities: Agudo, Dona Francisca, Faxinal do Soturno, Ivorá, Nova Palma, Pinhal
Grande, Restinga Seca, São João do Polêsine and Silveira Martins, which integrate the
Consórcio Regional de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (CONDESUS), whose mission is to
conserve and preserve the Cultural Heritage of the region. This Consortium, in agreement
with Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM), is the basis of the Fourth Colony
Geopark Project, which motivates all forms of growth, preservation, contribution to
sustainable development of the region, with emphasis on preservation and dissemination of
the material and immaterial heritage. Thus, the school, as an articulator of educational actions,
should be one of the institutions promoting heritage education by providing students in the
early years with historical and cultural knowledge so that they, as junior agents, become
multipliers of preservation actions and appreciation of cultural assets, giving meaning to what
was built from generation to generation. The product of this dissertation inserts Heritage
Education as a curricular component in the curriculum of the Elementary School - Beginning
Years, in order to guarantee that the teacher can work with this theme in class and provide the
students from the 1st to the 5th grade of the Restinga Sêca municipal school system, through a
specific curricular component of work, experiences and direct contact with the cultural
manifestations of which they are part.
