Resumen
Projects payment for environmental services, which financially compensates farmers and landowners for conservation of water and forests, are seen as the great promise for the preservation of ecosystems. These projects are seen as an effective way to encourage environmental preservation since reconcile preservation activities with income generation in rural areas where, generally, the maintenance of preserved areas is treated as losses by producers that have their production area decreased by areas of legal reserve and permanent preservation. In this context, this study sought to develop a model capable of determining the amount of compensation payable to farmers who maintain environmental preservation areas on their properties. Specifically, the work achieved its objectives through the application of the research method exploratory descriptive qualitative data, which were collected by desk research and literature, and the survey, through questions and interviews with professionals from forestry to information necessary for the formulation of the model. The model for financial compensation for environmental preservation was developed and validated by applying on a family farm through field research. The proposed model is specific to the properties of family farming, but can be adapted to properties of medium and large.
