dc.description.abstract | Due to the emergence of new alternatives of transportation, a large part of the university population has been
seeking for means of transportation that provide with a better cost-benefit for their commute. In this context,
public transport by bus remains being the most traditional, safest and environmentally sustainable one. For
these reasons, it is necessary to measure its performance to identify the ratio between the level of service
provided and the fare in order to make it the most used mean of transportation by the university population.
Therefore, the main goal of the study is the elaboration of a performance measurement method to evaluate
aspects of the tactical management of university lines of urban public transportation, with an economic bias.
For this reason, a hierarchical structure composed of critical success factors, key performance indicators and
metrics were developed, resulting in a global performance index. In order to perform tests, the developed
modeling was applied in a university line linked to the public transportation system of the city of Santa Maria,
which presented moderate performance according to the scale of the global performance index. Based on the
analyzed scenario, suggestions for improvement were planned in order to increase the tactic-economic
performance of the exploited university line. | |
