The accurate measurement of electrical current is widely required in many circuits and
applications. Whether in microelectronics or power electronics applications, either for
monitoring, protection, or optimization purposes, the correct measurement of electric current,
especially those of small values, represents not only a solution, but also a challenge, since in
some applications it is not possible to use proper measurement equipment.
This work seeks to bring a brief presentation of some of the main methods used for current
measurement. List their strengths and weaknesses, as well as application cases. This work will
address in more detail the series sense resistor method and, finally, present and analyze the data
of a practical experiment obtained in the electronics laboratory where the instrumentation
amplifier INA118P was used to amplify, in multiple gain values, the signal of different levels
of voltage across a shunt resistor in order to calculate the electric current flowing through it
