Resumen
The Atlantic Forest biome and its associated ecosystems are of great ecological importance in Brazil. Studies aimed at obtaining the quantification of biomass in areas with this coverage can provide important data on the energy potential of forests, as well as important references on climate change. This study aimed to measure the aboveground biomass of tree species present in a fragment of Seasonal Deciduous Forest in the municipality of Frederico Westphalen, RS, and to evaluate the correlations between the dendrometric and allometric variables obtained. The biomass estimate was performed using the indirect method, using an allometric equation, while the correlations between individuals and measured variables were performed using principal component analysis performed in the R software. The fragment comprised 159.19 Mg/0.9 ha, allowing an estimate of 176.87 Mg/ha of aboveground biomass. The species Holocalyx balansae and Nectandra megapotamica presented the highest values among those evaluated. The correlation showed that DBH and height resulted in the greatest association with aboveground biomass. The main components explained 78.8% of the variation in the data, and the axes were mainly influenced by height, diameter and specific mass. Future studies aimed at quantifying above-ground biomass may center their measurements on the variables height, diameter and specific mass.
