Resumen
The vignetting correction is one of first steps for the digital processing of images
obtained from light and electron microscopy, being a determining factor for the quality of the
results achieved by automatic methods of quantitative analysis. In this work two methods
were implemented, namely the Gaussian smoothing and the bicubic interpolation, to extract
the illumination pattern of images from which a background was not separately acquired.
Since both methods are assisted by the user, who must input some parameters and image
samples, a graphical interface was developed where the user performs these operations by
directly interacting with the images, so that the process of background extraction becomes
intuitive. Once the illumination pattern is known, the original image can be corrected by
means of a subtraction or a division. The methods were implemented using the Java language
and the JAI (Java Advanced Imaging) and ImageIO libraries and were integrated to the image
processing and analysis system Arthemis, developed by Laboratório de Computação Aplicada
