With the increase in the number of constructions that have been opting for the structural masonry construction method, a greater technical improvement of the structural characteristics of this method is necessary, since it is not yet fully understood. With this, this work seeks to study the mechanical behavior of two proportions, measured in volume of cement, lime and sand (1: 0.5: 4 and 1: 1: 6), of structural mortar. For this, cylindrical specimens with a diameter of 50mm and a height of 100mm were molded, which were tested for axial compression after 28 days of curing, at the Materials and Civil Construction Laboratory of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). The specimens were instrumented with strain gauges and the ruptures were filmed in order to allow analysis by digital image correlation (DIC). The stress-strain graphics showed that the greater the strength of the mortars, the greater are the deformations measured at break. The variations of the deformations versus stress levels showed that the mortar breaks of both studied proportions started to occur from stress levels above 0.9. It was noticed, during the analysis of the correlations, that there was a uniformity in the deformations presented between both methods, that is, the readings by the DIC technique was very close to the reading presented by the instrumentation with strain gauge.
