The environmental education theme should be inserted in the school environment seeking new methods using simple practices, such as the insertion of a school garden. The activities in have in relation to the environment and sustainability. This study aimed to show the current reality of schools in a town called Estrela Velha / RS in relation to projects that already existed and the possibility of resuming the implementation of the school garden. For the research we used the literature on environmental education, its integration in the school environment and the importance of the garden at school and the study through questionnaires and reports, to identify how many schools deployed, how many are still functioning, and to know what interest in resuming activities with the school garden, and it may point the benefits to students through this project. As the results, environmental education through school garden is part of the curriculum of three institutions, but in the period of this work two gardens were inactive and one garden did not stop completely. It was noticed that lack interest from municipal and school managers to provide for local schools to implement participatory and permanent educational projects, whose effectiveness has already been proven in many literatures and through so many positive arguments of those who have worked with the theme.
