Resumen
The study aimed to report the interventions carried out with groups of adolescents from a school in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, addressing the theme of self-mutilation and prevention of suicide in adolescence through the development of the Rubi Project umbrella project: a study on suicide and self-mutilation among adolescents. The initial idea for the creation of the project was to offer residents a performance outside the hospital environment; as well as provoking discussions in the school environment as preventive measures and awakening the health services, school community, managers and workers in view of the alarming estimates for the coming years. Twelve, seventh, eighth and ninth year classes received interventions from the extension project. Forty-six adolescents required reception and individualized care with the multiprofessional team, of which, ten required referral to specialized care with a psychologist, psychiatrist or both, and there was a hospitalization for attempted suicide. Forty-three students participated in the research project, of whom, twenty-three came from classes that received group interventions and twenty did not know the project. The large number of adolescents who showed symptoms of mental suffering shows that dealing with issues like these in the school environment is essential, and as a residence, you cannot work with this public in isolation. For this reason, partners are sought for referrals of students and it is suggested that the same work be carried out in other schools in the municipality, with partnerships between the health, education and service departments available.
