dc.description.abstractThis article versa on an exploratory survey on mental health policy aimed at children and young people as well, has been applied in the current public arena. It sought to critically describe the process of institutionalization and deinstitutionalization of children and adolescents in Brazil, through the hygienists movements and new paradigms that emerged at the end of the 80s with the country's democratization process. Finally we discuss some general lines of the guidelines of national mental health policy for children and adolescents that has guided the actions in this field. Thus, we understand that there are still many challenges to be achieved in this field, but we should never fail to consider that preventive work in mental health in infantojuvenil employs.
