Resumen
Landfills have become a viable technical alternative for the disposition of solid urban residuals. To avoid soil and water contamination, geomembranes are commonly utilized on waterproof base surfaces and slopes of landfills. This material prevents soil and water percolation of leached substances. A common combination to waterproof the base of landfills is to combine the geomembrane with sand. Sand is an inert material that guarantees the mechanical protection of the waterproof layers from external load action, such as heavy machinery. It is important to know the interface resistance parameters between these materials to avoid a rupture in the waterproofed system. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to verify the interface shear force resistance between geomembranes and two granulometric layers of sand with inundated conditions under different applied tensions. For this, two types of geomembranes were utilized: smooth and textured. It was found that geomembrane roughness and sand granulometry were of the significant influence of the shear force resistance of these interfaces. In general, the highest friction angle was obtained on the sand x sand interface, following the sand x textured geomembrane interface and lastly sand x smooth geomembrane. As for the sand granulometry, it was obtained the highest friction angle for interfaces with rougher granulometry.
