A análise do
As the need for housing expansion increases, the coastline becomes a target for
population growth. Artificial structures have been implanted in beaches as an
infrastructure for social, economic, and tourism development. However, the impacts
caused by these constructions are aggravating and interfere with beach morphodynamism
and, as a consequence, alter the functioning of this ecosystem. In addition, these structures
may form new habitats, which is the main subject evaluated in this study. To understand
if an artificial structure, such as a pier, causes local interference in the macrofauna and
microfitobentos of a sandy beach, we sampled around the pier's pillars and adjacent areas.
The analysis of the micro-habitat generated by the interference of the pier was tested in
the city of Mongaguá (SP). There was a negative effect of the pier on macrofauna
abundance, while it did not affect the abundance and activity of the microfitobentos.
Apparently, hydrodynamics is the predominant factor in the distribution and abundance
of organisms.
