Resumen
Anthropology and Linguistics in the Afro-Brazilian Studies is a short
maluation of the position taken separatedly by anthropologists and linguists as to the contribution of different African ethnicities to the present Brazilian realities and to the Portuguese spoken in Brazil. Calling attention to the fact that a11 the subjects in the field of lhe African influences in Brazil should be interdisciplinary, for both anthropologists and linguists deal with empirical evidentes underlying which some factors of socio-anthropological and etno-linguistics interract; Y.P.C. remarks that in the suruivals and religious orientations
preserved by the negroes in the Americas, a terminology of African origin specific to the ritualistic ceremonies and magic-semantic aspect was preserued more as perfonnance than as linguistic competence.
Y.P.C. ends by warning Anthropologists about the limitations uf their inferences in the Afro-Brazilian studies without the cooperation of linguistics and of notions of African languages, while to the linguist
in general the writer speaks about the need of anthropological joundatton and of knowledge, .wen theorical, of African languagesl in order to analyse better the Brazilian way of speaking of those regions
where the contingent of the African peoples often became superior to the number of Portuguese in Brazil.
