Abstract

O cinema de longa-metragem no Rio Grande do Sul (1997-2007): uma perspectiva industrial busca compreender a realidade da produção cinematográfica do Estado através do desempenho dos filmes no circuito exibidor brasileiro. O estudo parte da reconstituição da trajetória de consolidação da hegemonia do cinema norteamericano e os reflexos na atividade cinematografia do Brasil. E também procura reconhecer as tentativas em efetivar uma escala industrial para o cinema brasileiro, localizando a posição ocupada pela cinematografia da região. A pesquisa considera, ainda, as principais transformações na atividade, impulsionadas pelo cinema hegemônico, no contexto da sociedade da informação e do processo de globalização. E, finalmente, procura averiguar as condições para a sedimentação de uma indústria audiovisual no Estado: as principais barreiras e os possíveis avanços.

Full-length filme in Rio Grande do Sul (1997-2007): an indutrial perspective seeks to understand the reality of the film production of the state through the performance of films in the Brazilian circuit exhibitor. This study starts from the reconstruction of the path of consolidation of the American cinema hegemony and their reflections in the film industry activity in Brazil. It also intends to recognize the attempts to effect an industrial scale for the Brazilian cinema, locating the position occupied by the film industry in the region. Moreover this search considers the main changes in activity driven by hegemonic cinema in the context of the information society and globalization. Finally, it tries to examine the conditions for the consolidation of an audiovisual industry in the state - the main barriers and possible improvements.
