CNPq This work aims to promote a reflection about the contribution of Design in the teaching of Visual Arts in the initial series of Elementary School. It also proposes the search for foundations and / or tools resulted from the union of Design and Education, which contribute to the teaching of the visual arts through the creation of assemblages. Through the study of other national initiatives that had Design and Education as a structural basis, this work seeks to develop some structuring strategies that guide the field research and base the experiment developed in the 4th year of elementary school in a public institution of education in Garanhuns-PE, with approximately 25 students. Through the analysis method developed and used by Rob Johnsey, we identify stages and creation processes executed by the students in the development of assemblages, which are similar to the production processes of Design artifacts. Based on the results of the field research and on the theoretic referencial presented – wich includes researchers such as Antônio Martiniano Fontoura and Ana Mae Barbosa -, one can ascertain the relevance of experimenting and activities that use materials that integrate the sociocultural repertoire of the students. Proposing, finally, a strategy that can contribute to the inclusion of the Design in the artistic education, involving the school management and the community.
