The influence of grandparents on breastfeeding can contribute to early weaning. The research aimed to evaluate an educational technology developed for grandparents in the promotion of breastfeeding based on their knowledge, attitudes and practices and social network theory. Methodological study developed in three stages. In the first, elaboration of educational technology, to support the content, metasynthesis was performed, following the methodological reference of Noblit and Hare, using the descriptors "breastfeeding", "grandparents", "qualitative research" and "knowledge, attitudes and practice". Nine articles were part of the sample, the results of which originated two 'Support' and 'Containment' themes. The data were analyzed in the light of the Social Network Theory. In order to identify the technology to be built, focus groups were conducted with six community health agents, four higher education professionals, six grandparents and six mothers in ds iv family health units. The development of the pre-production, production and post-production phases of the video followed, according to comparato's methodological framework. The video was developed by a graphic designer following a script drawn from the selected content. In the second stage, the video was evaluated by 22 health professionals, 11 from education and 11 designers. The appearance evaluation was performed with 10 grandparents who accompanied their daughters or daughters-in-law in the joint accommodation of a university hospital in the city of Recife. The evaluation instrument was constructed based on the methodological framework and similar studies developed in the area of educational technology and contemplated the sections: idea concept, dramatic construction, rhythm, characters, dramatic potential, dialogues, visual style, audience referent and soundtrack. In the analysis of the content, binomial test, CVI and percentage were calculated. In the third stage, to measure the effects of technology in the future, a cap survey of the pre- and post-test type validated by 22 professionals was elaborated. The study received approval from the research ethics committee of ccs/UFPE, opinion no. 2,145,697. The Video's I-CVI was satisfactory in the three groups of evaluators (>0.9). In the evaluation of health and education professionals, the impact generated in the opening of the video was insufficiently evaluated. According to the designers nine items were evaluated as insufficient. From the suggestions, changes were made to the characters, content adequacy, script review and audio adjustments. For grandparents, all items were suitable. In the CAP survey, the S-CVI was 0.94 for the 46 pre-test and post-test items. From the analysis of the suggestions of the judges an issue was excluded. The grandmothers presented difficulty in understanding three items related to the knowledge domain and an item in the practical domain, which were modified. The study confirmed the hypothesis that the video "Counting on grandma's support in the success of breastfeeding" is appropriate for the practice of health education aimed at grandparents in promoting breastfeeding, which aim at the health and well-being of the child, family and society.
