FACEPE As for other biological groups, the bryophyte communities in agroforestry are characterized by the maintenance of richness and significant changes in the species composition, being these patterns based on taxonomic parameters. For a better understanding of the factors behind the organization of bryophyte communities in agroforestry, it is necessary to consider other factors such as the role of reproductive strategies and the functional attributes of species. We studied the bryophyte epiphytes in agroforestry of cocoa and native forest located in the southern region of Bahia, which were characterized (richness and species composition) and compared between the two environments. The organization of the communities was then analyzed under the light of the influence of the reproductive and functional aspects of the species. The results showed that, although there is no loss in the total number of bryophytes species in agrolforests, the hepatics have their richness reduced (mosses are not affected). The agroforestry in the southern region of Bahia harbor a typical bryoflora for this type of habitat, composed mainly of monoecious species producing sporophytes and dioecious species that frequently reproduce asexually. In addition, asexual reproduction among dioecious species seems to be benefiting in agroforestry, especially in those with lower native forest proportions, such as the landscape found in the municipality of Ilhéus. The reproductive patterns found suggest that the selection of bryophytes in agroforestry is related to the reproductive mode of the species. The species that compose the communities in the forests and agroforestry also differ in relation to the functional strategies. The species selected in the agroforestry are mainly those that have the attribute secondary pigments in their cells (protection against a greater luminous incidence). The variation in the presence of papilla was explained by the predictor variables (canopy opening, mean annual temperature, mean annual precipitation). In the agroforests studied, the functional organization of the epiphytic bryophyte communities is strongly influenced by processes related to the species niche, with luminosity as the main environmental factor selecting the species. In summary, the results obtained in this thesis show that epiphytic bryophyte communities in cocoa agroforestry in southern Bahia are characterized by lower dispersion of functional attributes (functional convergence), high abundance of monoecious species and species with reproductive frequency asexual, as well as less reproductive success among dioecious species. That is, in comparation with the native forest, bryophyte communities in the agroforestry are more functionally simplified and should present less genetic variability, due to the reproductive strategies more commonly used, and thus more vulnerable to the disturbances. In this way, the continuity and increasing conversion of native forests to agroforestry systems will increasingly lead to a homogenization of the bryoflora in the southern region of Bahia.
