FACEPE 'Making a Brazilian newspaper affirming Latin America'. Such is the novelty of the proposal launched by Versus (1975-1979), an alternative publication published in São Paulo and endowed with a continental soul. Besides being made in close contact with other Latin American publications such as Cuba’s Casa de las Américas (1960-present), the Uruguayan Marcha (1939-1974) and the Argentine Crisis (1973-1976), such characteristic reverberates and reveals itself in the journalistic project of Versus, having an effect on textual confection, in a movement aligned with a search for roots. Taking this into consideration and aiming to contribute to overcome the lack of research in the field of communication dedicated to Latin America, two are the axes of analysis of this thesis: Versus' relationship with the cultural territory in which Latin America was converted in the early 1970s and the consequences of such an approximation in the sense of forging a journalistic praxis closely linked to the journalistic making – influencing its function, its method, its raison d'être. In the course of the journey proposed, with its focus adjusted to Versus, but following the clues of the continental coordinates, it was sought to unveil and to re-elaborate the communication circuit that supported convergences (and divergences) between these publications. Therefore, the analysis pays close attention to the identification, verification and reflection of the intrinsic "speeches" of Versus’ political-cultural project, as well as the marks and the milestones that point out to a commitment in which, as it is expected to be seen, the process of writing is a form of engagement. Amid Versus' processes and practices, this other journalism proposal is outlined. Finally, in the search for voices that could offer other perceptions to the path this thesis proposes, a map of ideological, cultural, political, and also personal and affective relations is established, composed by the contrast between the vision of Versus’s collaborators and the documents produced by the organs of repression of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship.
