Resumen
The present work aims to introduce the effective altruism as a way to fight extreme poverty –
understood as impossibility to reach basic needs of subsistance, being structured in four
chapters: the first one dedicates itself to a research data about poverty, its possible causes and
effects in the world and in Brazil; the second chapter consists of understanding the altruism
while thinking, which dates back to 15th century; the third chapter introduces the effective
altruism, proposal founded by the philosophers Peter Singer and William MacAskill, its
assumptions and the innovative proposal to implement the good, so it can attain the biggest
number of people as possible, through the application of precise and rational criteria; in the
fourth chapter is brought the possibility of maximizing the good by the brazilian state by
means of taxation of large fortunes.
