Abstract

Medicines represent the prospect of solving many of the serious health problems, preserving their quality should be guaranteed from the manufacturing to the dispensing to the patient. In this way, the conditions of storage, distribution and transportation must be adequate, in order to maintain the quality of the medicines within ideal standards. In this sense, the present study aims to analyze the drug storage process at the pharmaceutical supply center of the municipality of Currais Novos-RN. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive-exploratory study, developed in May 2018. Data collection is through an inspection roadmap, based on Good Practices for Storing Medications and storage requirements recommended by the RDC nº 44/09. Of the 16 evaluated items, 47% presented nonconformity. Items such as lack of operational procedures, inadequate lighting and electrical installations, and monitoring of temperature and humidity make up non-conforming items. Based on the study, it was possible to show that the pharmaceutical supply center storage system in the municipality of Currais Novos-RN, which is the only one responsible for dispensing and storing basic pharmaceutical care products for the population of all neighborhoods, needs to be optimized in several points, so that there is a strengthening of the pharmaceutical assistance cycle. The pharmacist presents himself as a fundamental professional to lead this process that aims at a more effective and safe dispensation for the patient who needs access to the medicine.
