Resumen
Metal pipes, which transport and distribute oil, gas, chemical products, water, steam, petroleum products and other substances of great importance to the world economy, are equipment with high susceptibility to corrosion. Thus, new studies are suggesting the use of polymeric coatings to prevent more severe actions on the surface. These polymeric materials are widely used as a physical barrier between the metal surface and the corrosive environment, insulating and protecting metal structures from corrosion. One of the main challenges for organic coatings is the absorption and penetration of water and corrosive ions, which can deteriorate the adhesion and corrosion resistance of the paint system. However, the use of graphene nanofillers in polymeric coatings has been promising in terms of improving corrosion protection properties, even more so when it comes to reduced graphene oxide. Organo-functionalized silanes have also been used directly in these coatings to improve the adhesion property, reduce water absorption of polymeric coatings, and ultimately increase the corrosion resistance of the system. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the experimental part of the work was compromised due to the impossibility of using nonessential laboratories, i.e., those that did not have guinea pigs or live specimens, plants or animals. Therefore, in order to give continuity to the theoretical commitments of the TCC research, surveys on the subject were carried out based on the available literature. Therefore, the objective of this work is to conduct a critical analysis of the means that encompass the synthesis of reduced graphene oxide for the production of epoxy-based anticorrosive nanocomposites and to evaluate the effect of graphene functionalization on the anticorrosive properties of the system.
