Resumen
Industrial and domestic wastes are sources of nitrate and nitrite ions in water. The use of the
metropolitan region of the waters of Natal, both in the metropolitan region and in the rural area,
can contribute even more urban as in the rural area, with waters of waters near and close, in the
zone to contaminate the waters of the waters of Natal and still close , in the zone to contaminate
the waters. According to the defense of the Environment, the promoter of water with nitrate in
Natal grows in competition. Monitoring of nitrate ions becomes important for human
consumption mainly due to its conversion in the stomach to nitrite, known to be toxic for human
consumption. Exposure can raise the water level to the oxygen agent by the high pressure by
acting as methemoglobin, if the nitrite apparatus in the water enough. On the other hand,
exposure to the dangerous amide of nitrite, can result in cancer, even in the stomach after
rebellion with amines and contained in chronic foods, to N-nitroso compounds, known to man.
The monitoring actions of the metropolitan systems of Natal are captured for the urban region
in the metropolitan region of Natal. However, there are gaps in the monitoring of the nitrite ion
in the waters of the lagoons, without previous treatment. According to the WHO, the maximum
permitted concentration of this toxic compound is 1 mg/L in water intended for human
consumption. Therefore, the quantification of at least one of these ions is indicative not only of
whether or not the lagoon is suitable for bathing, but also indicative of the quality and extent of
basic sanitation in a given region. The monitoring of nitrite ion in the water of these lakes is
possible to be carried out and it is important to do so, as it positively impacts the health of the
population and the environment, which depend on that water for consumption, since nitrite is
known to be toxic. Considering the objectives of the United Nations, more specifically objective
6 -"Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all", the
objective of the present work was to determine and compare the concentration of nitrite ions in
the water of the lagoons of Extremoz , Jacumã, Carcará and Arituba located in the metropolitan
region of Natal/RN, in the years 2020 and 2021, through molecular absorption
spectrophotometry, resulting in concentrations within the limit established by law in the nitrite
ion parameter.
