dc.description.abstractThis work presents a discussion about the potential of water use, its distribution, availability and value for the semi - arid regions, having as study area the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - Seridó Higher Education Center - Campus de Caicó (UFRN -CERES-Caicó). Thus, it is proposed the implementation of a rainwater utilization system in this area of study based on the difficulties of supply experienced during the history of the dry periods. The research is justified in the drought problems disseminated in the semiarid. The methodology used was based on an academic research, which used primary and secondary sources, through analysis of institutional documents, interview, field research and elaboration of quantitative analysis. According to the study carried out, in view of the widespread water crisis in the region in question, it was possible to verify the potential in the CERES campus of Caicó to realize the use of rainwater through the implementation of gutters, conductors and cisterns in the current campus structure , which will provide numerous benefits, such as the solution to problems of flooding in the study area and the ability to become self-sufficient in relation to the water issue, by joining the existing systems that provide water to UFRN-CERES-Caicó, which are the well and the waters captured from the air conditioners, with the proposed system of exploitation of rainwater.
