Resumen
The present work seeks to discuss in general terms the aspects related to the changes in economic indebtedness
in the capitalist system in recent years and the changes of capitalism in Brazil.. More specifically, the paper
aims to expose Brazilian indebtedness, its origins and the consequences of indebtedness and economic policies
for the national economy in the 1990s. In this sense, the following question is intended to be answered: How
recent transformations in capitalism have influenced evolution of the Brazilian public debt since 1990? The
research will be elaborated from a bibliographical review and historical analytical approach, with the analysis
of pertinent data and graphs. In order to develop the three specific objectives proposed, a bibliography was
read about the subject, a critical analysis of the authors making the appropriate comparison of ideas and, later,
the database of the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Social Studies (DIEESE) , The National Bank for
Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and the Central Bank (BACEN), to follow the evolution of the
Brazilian public debt. It is argued here that the Brazilian public indebtedness since the 1990s has been the
inducement of growth, first, the monetary policy inaugurated by the Real Plan inaugurated after the Brazilian
government's acceptance of the conditions imposed in the Brady plan and, second, by all the governments that
followed the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
