Resumen
Introduction: Obesity is defined as the excessive accumulation of body fat, which is a determinant in the increased risk of developing other diseases, as well as causing poor sleep quality. The relationship between physical activity and sleep is bidirectional, however the etiological factors and the interaction between them are still not well understood. Objective: To check whether there is an association between the level of physical activity and the sleep quality in obese individuals. Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional study carried out virtually, using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and the Human Activity Profile (HAP) questionnaires to verify the level of physical activity and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) to analyze sleep quality. For data normality, the Shapiro-Wilk test was performed and the analysis conducted using descriptive statistics, using percentage, mean and standard deviation. For associations between variables, the chi-square test was used, adopting a significance level of 5%. Results: The sample consisted of 48 participants, 15 of them were eutrophic, 15 were overweight and 18 were obese, they had a good level of physical activity, as well as a low probability of sleepiness and poor sleep quality. Conclusion: There was a greater predominance of individuals with poor sleep quality and good functional capacity, configuring as moderately active to active, with no association between the level of physical activity and sleep quality in obese individuals.
