Resumen
Context: Meaningful learning is a starting point for the construction of new teachinglearning methods. In this regard, the concept map appears as an active methodology
on which the student builds their learning in a dynamic, illustrative, creative, and
reflective form, through a graphical representation of concepts that relate to each
other by forming propositions. In turn, these propositions are formed by an initial
concept, a final concept, and a linking term that expresses the existing conceptual
relationship. In this teaching process, the professor is the student’s mediator and
supporter. Objective: Evaluate the construction of Concept Maps and the students’
perception regarding the potentialities of this teaching-learning strategy in the
Urogynecology and Obstetrics Discipline of the Physiotherapy College at the Federal
University of Rio Grande do Norte. Methodology: Exploratory and descriptive study,
whose data were collected from concept maps constructed by the students, from a
scale of established criteria, according to Bhusnurmath et al. These criteria follow a
twenty-point scale, as follows: (1) organization; (2) interconnectivity; (3) clarity and
understanding; (4) accuracy of information; and (5) layout. Twenty fourth- year
students enrolled in the discipline of Urogynecology and Obstetrics in the second
semester of 2020 participated. Ninety-four elaborated maps were analyzed, of
which fifty-six followed the standards of concept maps and thirty-eight did not meet
the criteria. Free and Informed Consent Term (FICT) were included. Only students
who signed the consent form were included in the study and other types of maps or
diagrams were excluded. Cmap Tools software, developed and freely released by
the Institute for Human & Machine Cognition (IHMC). Results: In the evaluation of
the concept maps, it is observed that only 23,2% met all the criteria and 58,9% did
not use thecross-links. The link phrases were used by 93,7% of the students and
only 1,7% student did not prepare the map in an organized way and not used crosslinks. Conclusion: Concept maps can collaborate with the teaching-learning process, providing the organization of ideas upon the studied knowledge.
