Abstract

With the population growth, the human being began to worry about a destination of the wastes that are generated by themselves. Coffee, which is consumed on a large scale both in Brazil and in the world, is a great generator of solid waste. For each ton of coffee bean, 480 kg of coffee grounds is produced. In addition, this seed has many compounds in its oil that are widely exploited by society for food, beauty or cleaning products. Some of the compounds remain retained in the sludge after the coffee processing. The sludge has about 20% oil, while the soluble coffee has about 0.1% lipid. Thus, it was proposed, in this study, a reuse of the oil of the coffee grounds as an ingredient of liquid and bar soaps, replacing dyes and essences. It is proposed that the oil be extracted through the implementation of an attached sector in soap production industries. Although the study did not address marketing costs, laboratories, among others, after a process elaboration and an analysis of production costs, it was concluded that the proposed alternative for coffee grounds is viable according to the factors addressed.
