Resumen
The accelerated population growth, without planning, over the years has led to the emergence of several problems related to the population's quality of life, especially, the low sanitary disposition that directly affects public health. As a result, the emergence of diseases has been compromising people's health. The Federal Law No. 11,445 / 2007, updated by Law 14,026 / 2020, defines national guidelines for basic sanitation, as well as, in the municipal scenario, the elaboration of Municipal Basic Sanitation Plans (PMSB), as a fundamental part to receive financial resources for this purpose. In view of the deadline established for adaptation by the municipalities, it is necessary to know the situation found of the PMSB in the State of Rio Grande do Norte (RN). Therefore, this work aims to find a more recent outlook of the situation of PMSB in RN. These data were collected in a virtual way through the websites of the city halls, contact with municipal managers and with the Nucleus Intersectorial Technical Cooperation (NICT) of the National Health Foundation (FUNASA). Besides that a comparison was made with the data previously obtained by Alves Filho's dissertation in 2016, using socioeconomic indicators. The results show a great advance in the elaboration of the PMSB, linked mainly to the agreement established between the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) with FUNASA, which represents more than half of the municipalities found, all with the PMSB in the conclusion phase. Although there is still resistance on the part of many municipal managers and lack of disclosure of information about the Plan, the State of Rio Grande do Norte has shown great progress in this area.
