dc.description.abstractOver the years, aquatic ecosystems has been significantly altered due to the multiple environmental impacts of anthropogenic activities. Excessive nutrient enrichment (N and P) and the consequent increase in primary productivity contribute to the degradation and loss of biodiversity in aquatic ecosystems. Thus, understanding how macronutrients (N and P) interfere and limit the growth of phytoplankton, and their consequences linked to this growth, are of paramount importance in eutrophication studies, as these nutrients act as one of the factors. limiting the primary production of ecosystems. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of nutrient enrichment on phytoplankton growth on an experimental scale, with water from the reservoir of the tropical semiarid Boqueirão de Parelhas/RN. To evaluate the effect of phytoplankton growth on the samples, bioassays were performed using differential nutrient enrichment (N, P and NP). The results demonstrating that the effect of combined nutrient treatment (NP) influenced the growth rate at the end of the experiment (7 days). Thus, through the experiments it was possible to attest that the combined addition of NP was co-limiting for the phytoplankton biomass growth of the Boqueirão de Parelhas reservoir, that is, the joint enrichment of NP nutrients in the water provided necessary conditions for the phytoplankton develop.
