Resumen
Enviromental issues have gained a strong role in recent decades, mainly due to the high
pollution rates generated by the exacerbated consumption of natural resources. From the point
of view of fuels, the production of biodiesel appears as a method of replacing non-renewable
fuels. As a way to make your production even greener, the use of Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES)
as a solvent medium and catalysts for the reactions for the production of biodiesel becomes
interesting. This is due to DES biodegradability and absence of toxicity in addition to its ability
to simplify the product purification process. This study aims to analyze the process of
production of biofuels through the use of DES, as well as the main factors that influence the
reaction process. Using soya oil and ethanol and using a 4³ factorial design, the studied
parameters were the reaction temperature, the pH, the molar ratio of alcohol/oil and the molar
ratio of the components that form DES, using the response surface methodology to obtain the
optimal point. From that point, the density and viscosity characteristics of biodiesel and DES
were described from defined temperature intervals, as well as the kinetic behavior of the
reaction with time variation. The studied behaviors are within the usual standards in the literature.
