Resumen
This paper concerns the architectural project of a cultural and sports equipment for the Ponta Negra Village community. The design consists of the creation of a multipurpose space with a gymnasium and multifunctional rooms destined for sports and cultural practices. The primary motivation to develop said project is based on heavy local demand for an equipment that enables the practice of popular sports, such as soccer, and the myriad of typical cultural manifestations of the village, including “Congo de Calçolas”, Bumba meu Boi”, Capoeira and the “Pastoril”. This work’s main objectives are to analyze the village’s community’s relationship with sports, taking into account their preferences and necessities; to understand the inner workings of the identified sports and their demands and spatial needs; to survey the existing social groups on Ponta Negra Village and their current practice conditions, considering the absence of adequate physical spaces to this end; and, last but not least, to understand the organization and functional complexity of a multisport and cultural complex. For its development, theoretical background research was carried out to better define the concepts relevant to the theme, as well as direct and indirect reference studies focusing on architectural interventions with similar use and aesthetical and functional characteristics as the project in discussion. Visits to Ponta Negra Village complemented the process, allowing for a better understanding of the local reality. As result, a complex composed by a building with multiuse rooms and spaces dedicated to cultural activity practices, alongside a multi-sport gymnasium was obtained. These two structures are interlinked by a large curved roof and surrounded by a small square and tree-lined gardens, available to use by attendees.
