Centro Comercial do Alecrim - Natal/RN: a problemática do descarte dos resíduos sólidos urbanos

Abstract

The investigation deals with the problem of solid waste disposal, in the commercial center of Alecrim - Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. In most Brazilian cities, a significant portion of the population is poorly informed and unprepared to properly package and dispose of solid waste produced, causing several problems with the inadequate disposal of solid waste on public roads. In order to discuss the progressive increase in waste disposal in Bairro do Alecrim, in Natal/RN, and the perception of people about the problems generated from the concentration of this waste disposed on public roads, as well as the level of knowledge of users about legislation in force on a local and national scale, bibliographic research, questionnaire application and interviews were used. From an epistemological point of view, reflections on the importance of users of the Alecrim neighborhood, in their daily life of packaging, disposing and recycling solid waste, gain importance, in the context of apprehending how residents, traders and others establish relationships with the problem. Finally, how to contribute so that there is a better dissemination of both environmental actions in commercial establishments, as in the whole community, not only in commemorative periods, but continuously. This monograph also shows an analysis of the environmental problems existing in the Alecrim - Natal neighborhood, in terms of experience and professional experience.
