Resumen
Otoscopy is a common medical imaging exam in the screening of
outpatients who are under the specialized care of an otolaryngologist. Because it
involves the upper airways, it is seen as a possible risky procedure for health
professionals positioned in the front lines, as it aggravates exposure to
contamination by notifiable diseases, among which COVID-19 stands out today.
The availability of the otoscope and specialist for this examination is limited to,
which is why basic health care achievements and specialized centers in
peripheral countries are sometimes unqualified. Understanding these aspects,
the objective of this study is to present a safe and low-cost device that allows the
performance of otoscopies, ensuring significant doctor-patient distance during its
use and contributing to the early diagnosis of mortgages involving the hearing
system that require surgical ruptures. By consulting the database, patent
repository, access to prototyping technology (3D printing) in addition to the use
of free software and a smartphone, it was possible to develop an alternative
product that meets proven situations. The main results transcended the initial
perspective: it was also observed that the device developed can contribute to
post-surgical follow-up, avoiding localized displacements to the
otorhinolaryngology office.
