A produção da fruticultura irrigada no nordeste: considerações sobre as condições de trabalho dos assalariados rurais

Abstract

This monograph aims to learn about irrigated fruit production in the Northeast and the rural employment conditions. The Northeast is Brazil's second-biggest fruit producer, to export; a result of development projects implanted in the region, associated with the agribusiness' transnational corporations' interests. However, this production does not follow the social and human development indexes, on the contrary, it produces a broad process of inequalities, going from the poor rural employment life conditions to the environmental destruction by agrochemicals use, among others. The methodology approaches the qualitative research with bibliographic revision and document research, utilizing the critical-dialectical method, as a way of comprehending and exhibiting the rural employment reality in the Northeast's irrigated fruit production. The results obtained show that the rural employment's work conditions in the Northeast's irrigated fruit production are precarious and present a risk to the workers' health due to the agrochemicals' abusive use, among other labor risks. The work relationships are fragile, with temporary employment contracts by harvest. Consequently, it was found various social, work, and pension benefits violations.
