Resumen
In their policy agenda, the state of Rio Grande do Norte has prioritized the sanitation setor in order to meet the needs in water supply, collection and treatment of sewage and waste and as a reflection of national public policies. The Urban centers have been privileged, namely Natal, but also trying to bring the universalization of these essential services to all communities, there is still a long effort to develop. This article is a retrospective of the evolution of the sanitation sector in Rio Grande do Norte, tracing the current situation in the municipalities that make up this state, crossing these data with their sociodemographic profile, identifying possible blockages and some good examples. Emphasis is given to the current moment and the impact of the Brazilian crisis through the achievement of the targets for the sector. It analyzes also possible impacts on the most vulnerable communities and the actions to be delayed. In effect, there was a survey of current data and an analysis of the setor and sociodemographic data that may be considered relevant, as well as a literature review and analysis and discussion of guiding technical documents of public policies.
