The National Institute for Space Research monitors the fluxes of Ultraviolet Radiation (R-UV) on ground, since 1990, through a network of Brewer Spectrophotometers in Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and Antarctica. The spectrophotometer is recognized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the program Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) as the standard for ozone and R-UV measurements. The objective of this work is to describe and evaluate the operation of the Brewer in the process of collecting R-UV, at the same time that it presents methodology developed for data validation for the period from 1997 to 2012 in the cities of La Paz, Bolivia and Natal, Brazil. Evaluation the operation of the optical part with highlight in the Standard Lamps (SL) of Spectrophotometers. Natural wear in the operation of the instruments were observed. The mathematical model of radiative transference of the Tropospherical Ultraviolet Visible Model (TUV) to simulate an IUV database. By means of linear regression analysis between the two bases, the time series of the Brewer (predictor variable) was adjusted by means of the TUV time series (response variable). This review presents an algorithm for validation of its records and a routine for the pre-analysis of the collected data.
