Resumen
Problems related to water scarcity worsen over the years due to population growth, technology development and production processes. Water reuse is an alternative to these problems and is a practice increasingly adopted around the world as it uses treated wastewater for purposes considered less noble, leaving drinking water for human supply. One of the main uses of this effluent is non-potable urban reuse, which aims to use this water for irrigation of squares and flower beds, street washing, unclogging pipes, among other uses. In addition to promoting the saving of drinking water, reuse is advantageous because it prevents wastewater from being discharged into other water bodies which, depending on the treatment, mas decrease the quality of the water source. In Natal, the irrigation of the flower beds occurs through the use of drinking water in water trucks or drilling wells. In the city, there are 72 rainwater catchment lagoons, with CTG lagoon, Makro lagoon and Manoel Felipe lagoon chosen for proposing reuse water irrigation projects. The water quality of this lagoons was compared with reuse water quality parameters for the proposition of water truck irrigation and automated irrigation systems using these waters as an alternative to the systems traditionally used. In order to analyze the economic viability of the systems, the costs with the necessary treatment for the lagoons water, the paths to be make from the lagoons to the bed flowers, the construction of the reservoir system and the costs related to the labor were taken into consideration. The proposed irrigation systems show that its use is feasible not only in the environmental area, but also financial area, comparing with the traditional ways used for irrigation, being an extremely important and viable technique for the sustainable development of the city.
