Resumen
ABSTRACT - PAPER 1
Purpose: to evaluate the time of use (hours / day) of the Hearing Aids (HA) in hard of hearing children, users of a service of the Unified Health System, as well as to analyze the factors that influenced the adherence to the use of the hearing devices in this population. Method: cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study, approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the institution. The sample consisted of 40 children with mild to profound sensorineural hearing loss. The collection instruments were their hearing aids data logging tool, as well as data from medical records, the record of frequency and family involvement in (re) habilitation. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was performed, using the multiple regression model, considering the use of hearing aids as a dependent variable in function of selected independent variables. Results: The use of hearing aids for more than 10 hours / day occurred for 51.02 %% of the sample in the right ear and 42.85% in the left ear. The influencing factor in adherence to the use of hearing aids was the degree of hearing loss in the right ear and the other factors did not significantly impact the use of the hearing aid in the sample studied. Conclusion: Of the 49 children, 31 (63.26%) used hearing aids for more than 10 hours / day in any of the ears. Multicenter studies are recommended to expand knowledge about adherence to the use of hearing aids in Brazilian children.
ABSTRACT - PAPER 2
Purpose: to analyze the self-perception of hard of hearing children using hearing devices and their families regarding their daily use, comparing the referred use with data logging data, as well as knowing the self-reported benefits with the devices. Method: cross-sectional, observational, descriptive-analytical study, with quantitative and qualitative analysis, approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the proposing institution. Questionnaires adapted were applied to 38 families and their children to evaluate the use and perceived benefit with hearing aids and other devices in different day-to-day situations, as well as collected the number of hours/day of use of these devices. Results: children and families overestimated, on average, 5.3 and 2.5 hours per day, respectively, the time of hearing device use compared to the data logging measure. Both children and families reported benefits from the use of the equipment, although the use and handling of remote microphones was the biggest challenge identified. Conclusion: There was a disagreement between the number of hours reported by children and families among themselves, as well as between them and the data logging measure. Families reported the need for further guidance on the handling and use of remote microphones, which points to the importance of personalized intervention for the empowerment of these family members and children, with the involvement of the school team and support network, identified by the families as essential for the effective use of hearing devices by children with hearing loss.
