Resumen
Based on an understanding of architectural specifications for teaching and learning activities, this work seeks design solutions for physical spaces that meet the educational requirements of Montessori pedagogy, which considers the child as the center of learning. Its general objective was to develop the preliminary project of a nursery school to serve three-year-old children, based on the Montessori Method and located in Vila de Ponta Negra, Natal-RN-Brazil. The specific objectives were: (1) to understand the child aged between three and six years old, when it comes to the relations that this norm in and with the environment; (2) understand the socio-spatial dynamics that guides the functioning of Montessori schools and (3) identify morphological attributes that must be present in the physical space of Montessori schools, to be associated with the conditions of accessibility, functionality, comfort, integration and flexibility. The design process was developed through reflection in action. As a result, a proposed school has approximately 2,300m² distributed over two floors inserted in a 3,740.17m² lot. Its main access is through a small square created at the entrance and designed for the community. The building is formed by integrated learning environments through circulations and patios that, in turn, are associated with free areas and gardens. The formal simplicity, the predominance of neutral materials and the use of light colors, with emphasis on the tones of nature, aim to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere, in harmony with the surroundings.
