Resumen
Self-healing materials have been studied as an alternative for the repair of damaged composite materials. The addition of thermoplastic particles to a thermoset matrix is one of the approaches used in the literature for self-healing, as the thermoplastic material is capable of flowing and filling in cracks in the matrix and partially recover the damaged material. One of the difficulties found in this method is the homogeneous dispersion of the thermoplastic particles in the sample. In the present study, the influence of one processing parameter (time of mixing of resin components when plastic material is added) was evaluated. Dynamicmechanical analysis (DMA) was performed to observe if there were changes in material properties with the variation of the processing parameter. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to observe the effects on the chemical structure of the material and the optical microscope was used to observe the dispersion of thermoplastic particles in the matrix at the different times of addition of thermoplastics. Results show an improvement in the dispersion of particles with increasing mixing time, without changes in the glass transition temperature (Tg), but with some changes in the FTIR spectrum.
