Resumen
This article discusses the processes of the alphabetizing teachers' continuing education as the possibility of changing the school's challenges in educating readers that read for pleasure, and considers the historical trajectory of contruction of reading conception. The work aims to verify the contribution of continued formation proposed by the Programa de Alfabetização naIdadeCerta (PAIC) for the teachers' teaching practice of reading in the 1st grade in a public school in a municipal school in Ceará. It presents a debate of the discussed matter taking as a basis the contributions of Soares (2004), Souza (2000), Cagliari (1995) and Ferreira & Dias (2002), among others. As for the methodological assumptions, documents of the Program are used and questionnaires are applied with teachers working in the area. The analyzes reveal important aspects that indicate: I) advances in the conception geared for comprehension of reading as a social practice; II) contribution of the process of continuing education to practicing in the readers' formation, concerning the appropriation of reading strategies; and the III) relevance of the educational materials as support for the practice of teachers in reading instruction.
