Resumen
“The Princess Empowered” consists of a series of visual experiments made with mixed techniques (painting, collage, overlay, ink, stencil) and recycled materials, inspired by the homonymous literary work A Princesa Empoderou (2008), written by the author of this same project between the years 2016 and 2017. The book explores, in a series of chronicles and short stories, the different manifestations of oppression – within the context of a racist, LGBTphobic and sexist society – in the lives of women who belong to different groups and social classes. Here I present, in a reflexive and poetic way, how the concept of female empowerment comes together – arising from postmodern feminist theories – in the creative process of images, based on the approaches of black philosophers, researchers and artists such as Joice Berth, Lélia Gonzalez, Angela Davis, Djamila Ribeiro, Patricia Hill Collins, Audre Lord, Grada Kilomba, Maya Angelou, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Sojourner Truth. “The Princess Empowered: Visual Experiments of Mixed Technique on a Non-Transferable and Collective Transcendence” gives us a reflection about the mystery of composition for the artist-researcher through a game of mistakes and successes in a painting studio. It also believes that the visual work is the search for what one wants to see and, at the end of the image’s creation process, the only possible resolution is the certainty of never stop searching for that something one really wants with all their heart.
