dc.description.abstractABSTRACT Study of the geotechnical characteristics of the soil in an infiltration basin after the first year of operation in the last decades, the fast-paced grow and urban expansion, generated anomalies at the natural hydrologic cycle. For this reason, situations that threaten the balance and stability of the human habitat, such as flood and overflows, has been turning into an everyday issue in some cities. At Scenario, the urban drainage systems become an essential part for the prevention of these accidents, mainly at the cities` lower areas, which are more prone to suffer with floods. However, the water received by these drainage system, care within itself sediments that are present at the urban centres. The sediments can combine inside the soil, causing the clogging process in the soil, decreasing its infiltration capability. Thus, the objective of this project is continue the study of the clogging process at the soil of the infiltration basin, localized at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, in Natal, RN. In conjunction with this objective, it is focus of the research to verify any impact caused after the first year of operation of the basin, and reveal any variation that was perceptible during the development of the analyses. For this reason, two distinct collect points were select to extract the material necessary for the experiments. After extraction, in July 29 of 2017, the experiments to determine the geotechnical characteristics of the soil, were realized and during the months of September, October and November, were performed the analyses of the soil’s organic matter percentage and permeability. The results obtained, were favourable to the good performance of the infiltration dispositive, however, it was opposite to the initial thesis that the organic matter has a strong influence over the permeability coefficient. The data obtained was compared with the information gathered in 2016, with the purpose of monitoring the any alteration at the geotechnical characteristics of the soil. Finally, the results will be utilized as auxiliary data at the development of future researches. Key Words: Stormwater Infiltration basin; clogging; permeability; percentage of organic matter.
