Resumen
In large cities, according to the WHO (World Health Organization) estimate in 2014, for every five inhabitants the is a dog, and 10% of these are abandoned on the streets. In the city of Natal, in the same way, there are countless dogs and cats with an increasing population, exposed to human evil, being run over and assaulted, which can cause environmental imbalance, in addition to the health that is directly affected due to zoonoses. Despite all this, spaces do shelter or rehabilitate animals are still poorly worked on in the reality of our region and, for this reason, information on the topic and its consequent discussion and dissemination are important to make the population aware of such an urgent and yet ignored topic. From the practical order, the proposal is the design of an Animal Rehabilitation, Treatment and Shelter Center, a place designed to receive, treat and prepare the re-socialization of animals that are in situations of vulnerability, victims of abandonment, exploitation and mistreatment, and that it would be responsible, together with the institutions already in operation, for all stages from the rescue until their responsible adoption. Thus, the general objective of the work is to develop a preliminary design of a center for the rehabilitation, treatment and shelter of animals in the city of Natal-RN, with focus on architectural solutions that concern environmental quality, that is, attributes focused on health, well-being and comfort of the different users of the place. The specific objectives are: to study the concepts of environmental quality, welfare and animal sentience; to know the characteristics and needs, within the scope of architecture, of a veterinary clinic and shelter for animals and to understand the physiological, psychological and social needs of the animals that are most vulnerable in the region. The material delivered is divided into two parts: the first one textual, containing various information that supported the architectural proposal and the path developed to arrive at these solutions, and the second one, composed by the drawings referring to the conceptual project.
