Resumen
In this work, the dynamometer designed and manufactured by Braga (2019) was instrumented with two 500 N strain-gauge load cells to measure the main cutting force and the feed force in orthogonal turning. The analog signals produced by the transducers were amplified and digitalized through an electronic circuit based on the Arduino Uno platfom. The digitalized signals were used to create numerical files with the values of the main cutting force and the feed force, which were plotted against time. The instrument was statically admeasuremented at the Laboratório de Manufatura at UFRN with standard masses of 5 kg belonging to the Laboratório de Metrologia of the same university. Orthogonal turning tests using the prototype were performed in different workpiece materials, where the cutting speed and feed rate were varied. The results were satisfactory and consistent with the theory on cutting forces in turning operation. Finally, it was noted that the prototype provided the expected results, becoming an available and applicable instrument for the development of future projects and for use in trial classes, workshops and presentations at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Useful not only to help understanding how cutting forces change with the cutting parameters, but also to provide to the students a better undestanding on the machining process.
