Resumen
In order for an organization to carry out its activities, for the sake of achieving its goals, several resources from different areas are required. Among these, there are the material resources from suppliers located in the external environment, acquired through purchases and contracts. In recent years, the contribution of purchasing to organizations has increased, becoming more strategic, with a greater level of attention being given to this area, together with that of supplies. The lack of planning of purchases brings problems related to supply chain management, leading to missing or exceeding items. Thus, the search for alternatives that improve the management of supply chains is in line with changes in organizational results. Given these aspects, the general objective of this work is to analyze the categories of purchases at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) in the light of the aspects brought by Kraljic's Matrix. For this, data were extracted from two government platforms, related to purchases and contracts, referring to the acquisition of materials for the year 2020. After tabulating, ordering, and categorizing the data necessary to carry out the analysis, it was possible to conclude that the institution has a purchasing portfolio more concentrated on leverage items and non-critical items, which suggests that the institution has low complexity in its acquisitions. In third and fourth place, respectively, there are bottlenecks and strategic items. Furthermore, through this research, it was also possible to conclude that the institution needs to prepare a trategic plan for its acquisitions, aiming to improve the management of its acquisitions in items classified as strategic and bottlenecks, due to its high risk of supply shortages.
