Resumen
Introduction: Through the internalization of medical courses in inland cities of Brazil,
the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte creates the Multicampi School of Medical
Sciences (EMCM/UFRN). In order to promote professional fixation and broaden the
internalization policy, in addition to the undergraduate medical course, in 2017 the fifth
postgraduate program, was installed, the Medical Clinic Residency Program (PRCM),
whose main practice scenario is the Seridó Regional Hospital (HRS), was installed. One
of the main objectives of these programs is to impact the work processes and organization
of the practice scenarios. This study is an experience report that combines the program’s
residents and HRS health professionals. Objective: to understand the perception of HRS
health workers and researcher resident about the influence of the PRCM in this care space.
Methods: this is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study. Data collection was
carried out through semi-structured interviews with HRS health professionals and a field
diary. From the data, three thematic categories were created, analyzed from a criticalreflexive perspective: Strengths and Challenges; Routines; Relationship between
preceptors and residents. Results: Notably, there was a benefit in terms of health care for
the region's population after the implementation of the PRCM, but improvements are still
needed in relation to the curriculum, preceptorship and the interprofessional relationship.
Conclusion: We identified the need for adjustments in the PRCM that can be made after
a more detailed evaluation of the residency program in medical clinic including the main
leaders of the institutions involved.
