Resumen
Dental bleaching is highlights as one of the most common aesthetic procedure in the clinical dental routine and the dental sensitivity caused by this procedure can reach up to 87% of patients. However, the effect on sensitivity caused by activated carbon-based bleaching products is still unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the dental sensitivity degree of an activated carbon-based product (Carvvo®) used as a bleaching agent. A pilot study of a randomized, single blind, placebo controlled clinical trial was performed, including patients selected by social media disclosure. A total of 04 patients participated allocated to 04 following groups (n=1): CD (control) – control group only with conventional toothpaste brushing; CAR (activated carbon) – experimental group using activated carbono brushing (Carvvo®) associated with conventional toothpaste brushing; CARPH (activated carbon + hydrogen peroxide) – activated carbono brushing and conventional toothpaste associated with office bleaching with 35% hydrogen peroxide (Whiteness HP®); and PH group (hydrogen peroxide) – experimental group using conventional toothpaste brushing associated with office bleaching with 35% hydrogen peroxide. Dental sensitivity degree analyze was performed using the visual analog pain scale (EVA) day-by-day with rating at morning, afternoon and night during the 15 days of protocol bleaching, submitted only to descriptive statistics. The sensitivity of the control group (CD) was zero. At CV group, there was minimal sensitivity and, at the second week, moderate sensitivity. The CARPH group showed intense sensitivity only after the second bleaching session. And the PH group showed sensitivity ranging from zero to minimum, reaching a moderate degree after the second bleaching session. Although activated charcoal-based dentifrice has shown tooth sensitivity, further studies are needed to more effectively prove its action in patients undergoing its use.
