Resumen
Introduction: The new National Curriculum Guidelines (NCG) of the medical course
has the objective of allowing a more complete preparation of the doctor and suggests
that medical education should use pedagogical mechanisms that enable the
performance of the student in the construction of knowledge. A widely used tool in
academia today, and as a technology for teaching health across the world has been
the webcast, or podcast. The podcast is a way of publishing digital media files in audio
or video on the internet, through an rss feed. It is a widely used tool for the scientific
dissemination of university centers and as an e-learning technology because it is
familiar to the new generation of students, and has low production cost. Objective: To
evaluate the process of creating the podcast as an educational health tool for
undergraduate medical students. Methodology: The type of study is qualitative in
nature, with methodological guidance for action research, where it was selected four
groups of students, and each one of the groups were assigned a period of development
of a baby (0 to 3 months; 3 to 6 months; 6 to 9 months; and 9 to 12 months). In a first
stage, there was a discussion about the child’s development in the first year of life,
mediated by the master's student. In a second stage, the groups of students were
assigned to create podcast scripts with the purpose of educating the population about
the stimulation of children in the first year of life, according to each pre-established
period for each group. In a third stage, the recording of the podcasts was carried out
according to the scripts created, under the supervision of the master’s student and
analysis of the participants. After editing the material, the podcasts were distributed
through WhatsApp for mothers of patients from the Centro de Educação e Pesquisa
Anita Garibaldi, and publicly available trhough podcast aggregators. Finally, students
were submitted to a focus group to discuss the experience in making the product, and
in the learning process. Result: students understood the creation of a podcast as an
interesting experience both for the content learning process and for the development
of skills related to communication with patients. Despite the difficulty in associating the
proposed subject with an accessible language to the population, the creation of
podcasts proved to be an interesting tool to train students' language and teamwork.
However, it is necessary to pay attention to the creation of the text, under expert
supervision, in order to avoid noise in the interpretation by the listeners. Finally, it was
suggested by the students a survey for the listeners regarding the importance of the
shared material and the possibility of involving the patients in the process of preparing
the podcasts, as well as analysis of the audience and the reach of the product.
